Trailer Insurance – Eligibility
The policyholder must be domiciled in the United Kingdom, Channel Islands or Isle of Man.
KBIS Horse Trailer Insurance provides competitive insurance cover for your trailer. Cover is designed for private individuals and businesses with horse trailers wishing to take out cover against loss through accidental damage or theft.
Our online quote system caters for horse trailers with a market value up to £20,000. For trailers valued above this or if you require business use then please contact the office on 0345 230 2323 where a member of the team will be happy to provide you with a quotation.
Don’t forget about breakdown insurance – our trailer breakdown policy includes cover for the towing vehicle even when you’re not towing a trailer.
The policyholder must be domiciled in the United Kingdom, Channel Islands or Isle of Man.
We are able to provide cover for accidental damage and theft of the trailer for individuals who use their trailer for social, domestic and pleasure purposes only. If you require cover for business use then please contact our office and we will be able to provide a quotation under an alternative policy.
The policy will cover you within the UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and while temporarily elsewhere in the world for up to 60 days in total during the period of insurance.
In the case of damage which can be repaired, the underwriters will cover the cost for the repair or replacement of any damage/item after the excess, up to but not exceeding the sum insured.
In the event of a total loss then you will receive the market value for the trailer at the time of loss after the deduction of the excess.
The excess on our trailer insurance policy is £100 each and every loss
The cost of your policy will depend upon the sum insured value of the trailer, however the minimum premium is £60 plus insurance premium tax.

Should you need to make a claim on your policy it is important that you notify KBIS as soon as possible.
The following guide will help to ensure that you have complied with the terms of your policy with regards to claims notification. It is important to adhere to these conditions as failure to do so may prejudice your position with underwriters.
1. Initial notification

2. Obtain a Claim Form
Download a Trailer Claim Form. If you have contacted our offices we can arrange for a form to be sent by post, including a free post envelope for the return of your form and documentation
3. Collate all necessary information
In order for us to process your claim in the most efficient manner it is important that we have all of the relevant documentation, as requested, to enable us and the underwriters to consider the claim in its entirety.
4. Send the completed claim form and documentation to KBIS
Please note that we are unable to give any indication whether a claim is likely to be paid without the completed claim form and invoices.
KBIS trailer insurance is designed for private individuals who wish to cover their trailer against loss through accidental damage or theft. The policy provides this cover for social, domestic and pleasure use only.
If you require cover for using your trailer in connection with your business, or transporting other people’s horses and charging a specific fee for doing so, then you will need to contact our offices directly on 0345 230 2323, for us to provide you with a quotation.
Unfortunately we are unable to provide motor insurance for the towing vehicle.

In order to obtain a quote you will need to provide the following information:
Make and model of the trailer
Market value of the trailer
Amount you wish to insure the trailer for.
Any previous claims on insurance in respect of any trailer for loss or damage. If you have had a previous claim then you will need to provide full details of the claim including the total claimed.
Should you wish to take out cover then you will need to complete a proposal form and provide the following additional information

Where the vehicle is usually kept
A KBIS policy will cover you while temporarily abroad for a maximum of 60 days in total during the period of insurance (One year).
We can provide a separate stand-alone breakdown policy for your trailer. This policy will include cover for the towing vehicle and provide you with both home and roadside service, recovery service and emergency travel and accommodation. It is vital to contact your insurance company as soon as possible in the event of a claim.

It is a condition of the policy that the trailer must be immobilised when not in use, unless the trailer is in a totally enclosed and secure building, with all windows securely locked and all doors locked with deadlocks. The trailer can be immobilised with a wheel clamp or hitch lock.
