Catastrophe Cover

Our Catastrophe Cover is an affordable Vet Fee option that can either be purchased as a standalone policy for less than £500 a year or in conjunction with other cover benefits* such as Mortality Insurance, Public Liability Insurance, Personal Accident Insurance, Trailer Insurance and/or Tack Insurance.

This unique option includes vets fees up to a maximum of £7,500 in total during the policy period with a 15 month claim period. The cover is for accidental, external injuries only (i.e. involving an open wound), plus the inclusion of three life saving veterinary procedures; colic surgery, joint or tendon sheath flushing as a result of sepsis, and surgery for pastern or pedal bone fractures.

It offers an alternative solution for those looking to have some form of Horse insurance in place against major, lifesaving veterinary treatment for a much more affordable premium.

“Catastrophe Cover is great news for people who previously could not afford to insure but were worried about serious accidents and severe colic requiring surgery. It provides peace of mind for those scenarios when treatment is expensive but necessary and would otherwise result in significant financial cost or even the horse being put down.” Dr. Annie Ashman MA VetMB MRCVS

*Additional cover benefits will incur an additional premium.

WHAT OUR POLICYHOLDERS SAY

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The cover is for accidental, external injuries only (i.e. involving an open wound), plus the inclusion of three lifesaving veterinary procedures; Colic surgery, joint or tendon sheath flushing as a result of sepsis, and surgery for pastern or pedal bone fractures.
You can claim up to £7,500 in total during the policy period.

Firstly Catastrophe Cover can be purchased as a standalone vets fee option without including other types of cover such as mortality insurance.
Secondly Catastrophe Cover is limited to specific incidents (these include Accident external injuries involving an open wound), Colic Surgery, Joint and Tendon Sheath flushing due to Sepsis and Surgery for Pedal and Pastern Bone Fractures. This makes the cover more limited than full vets fees which would normally offer cover for all incidents and illness that are not specifically excluded or do not pr-exist the policy.
Both these limitations on the scope of the cover make it a more affordable option.

We can cover horses from 90 days old to 20 years old under the Catastrophe Cover.

You can claim up to £7,500 within the policy period, this can be split between multiple smaller claims or a single larger claim. There is a £140 excess pre incident which means that you will be responsible for the first £140 of each and every claim.

You can claim for veterinary fee cover for 15 months from the onset of the incident; that is when the first clinical signs of the illness or injury were noted provided that you notify us of the incident within the policy period.

Catastrophe Cover is available for all standard disciplines such as eventing, dressage, showjumping, pony club, riding club, hunting, driving (not including trotting), pleasure riding and for horses out at grass. If the activity you take part in is not included, please read the terms and conditions for the full list or contact our office.
Please note that Racing and Polo are not included within the cover.

You can add on extra benefits to Catastrophe Cover and these can include Mortality, Public Liability, Personal Accident and tack and trailer cover.
