KBIS British Equestrian Insurance joins forces with Westgate Labs to help promote testing for worms and customer discount
Equestrian insurance specialists, KBIS are working with Westgate Labs, who offer quick, easy to use worm count and testing service to help horse owners manage the parasite control of their horses, targeting drugs to slow wormer resistance.
With resistance to wormers becoming a very important issue within the equestrian and livestock world educating horse owners is paramount. “The increase in resistance of worms to the regularly used worming drugs is widely considered to be the biggest threat to equine welfare today. With no new products on the horizon it is essential that targeted worming is carried out and that we only use the drugs we have when absolutely necessary” stated KBIS in-house Vet Dr Annie Ashman.
Westgate Labs a family run company based in Morpeth, Northumberland are pleased to be able to offer KBIS customers 10% off across their entire online range including all of their worm test count kits.
“Most insurance companies know only too well the effect that poor worm control can have on horse health. The clinical implications are often expensive to treat and can have life limiting or worse, fatal consequences on the individual horse while the implications of drug resistance on the general equine population are also terrifying.
It’s therefore fantastic to be working with KBIS on this proactive initiative to promote responsible parasite management. The good news is horse owners have ready access to low cost laboratory tests to help monitor infection levels, target treatments and test for drug resistance which help to make worm damage preventable as well as prolonging the efficacy of the drugs we have available” said Claire Shand, Director of Marketing and Communications at Westgate Labs.
