British summer time is in full swing and there are lots of fun and exciting things out there to do with your horse or pony. We’ve done the hard work for you and handpicked some of the best experiences on offer.

Have you done any of these before? Let us know what you thought!

1. Holiday with your horse…

Struggling to find someone to look after your horse whilst you go away? Why not take them with you! Head down to the countryside to get yourself that well-earned break with no distractions. There are many places that offer accommodation and access to lots of different experiences such as riding along coastal paths, beaches, sand dunes and cross county courses.

Take a look at Picket Pod Glamping Holidays in South Wales where they have an unbelievable scenery for you to explore; or give Field Farm on the East Coast of Lincolnshire a go and experience their incredible off-road hacking. For the opportunity to stay in a magnificent 17th century Lakeland Farmhouse adjacent to where your horse will be stabled then have a browse at this B&B in the Lake District.

2. Riding Camps aren’t Just for Kids…

Riding camps can be a great way to meet like-minded people whilst having fun with your horse. Many places offer tuition from professional trainers so you can use the week to help you and horse improve as a partnership. As well as have access to great hacking and cross-country courses.

Take a look at Bobbi’s Horse Camps in Lancashire or Wellington Riding in Hampshire.

3. Fancy more of a day trip?

If you are trying to find a new place to go hacking and explore different surroundings, why not try your hand at a fun ride and meet new people whilst you’re at it!

On Sunday 22nd September you can have the chance to ride around the iconic Badminton Park, home of the world famous 5* Horse Trials; or you could take advantage of the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful scenery of Her Majesty the Queens gardens and ride in Windsor Great Park on the 7th or 8th September.

4. It’s a Pony Picnic!

Want to go for a long hack but worried about getting hungry?! There are now places that combine hacking through some of the most beautiful parts of the countryside with a scrumptious picnic for lunch!

Try Wildwoods Riding Centre, Surrey, where you will be brought your pre-ordered lunch which could be anything from burger and chips to cream teas, homemade pastries, and shortbread. For a different part of the UK try Sheans Horse Farm, Northern Ireland where you can enjoy 360 degree panoramic views of the beautiful North Antrim Hills.

5. Cool off in the water…

The problem with horse riding is it can get very hot with all your gear on so why not go for a dip to cool off! Join Shoshoni the swimming horse in Loch Lomond, Scotland where the water is more than likely to be cold enough to cool you down!

Alternatively, you could take advantage of the warm weather by heading down to the beach. For top rides that could be near you take a look at our article on the best beaches for horse riding.

6. A spot of Competition

There are numerous competitions this summer that can cater to all levels and disciplines, from those just starting out to more experienced riders.

The All England Jumping Championships at Hickstead gives everyone the opportunity to qualify for the infamous main ring, and you don’t have to be jumping 1m60 to do it!

Another way you could qualify to compete at the hallowed turf of The All England Jumping Course is through entering Sunshine Tour Qualifiers. These qualifiers can be seen at your locals shows for dressage, showing, show jumping and the eventers challenge.
