Getting to know Jenna our KBIS NSEA Bursary Winner!

1. When did you first start riding?

I started riding properly when I was 2 years old but my mum had a horse so I had sat on him earlier. I was lucky enough to ride Jade Gemmill’s pony Gracie twice a week for a few years.

2. What do you love about riding side-saddle?

I like side saddle because it is really fun and challenging and I enjoy doing something different. I was bought a lesson as a surprise present 3 years ago by a friend of my mums, so it was totally new to me and mum. We met Amelia Bevan who gave me the lesson and her mum Alex Bevan who kindly lent us the tack and habit and they helped so much so it just all came together easily.

3. What is your favourite thing about your pony?

My favourite thing about Stitch is that he is amazing to jump as he is really scopey, he is really honest and he tries his hardest in everything he does.

My favourite thing about Tess is she is very very pretty and we have come such a long way together. When I got her, she had only recently been backed after having a foal so we really have a special bond.

4. What is your favourite horsey memory?

My favourite horsey memory was swimming in the sea with Tess, we were both swimming but I fell off as she started jumping the waves!

5. What are your aims for the future?

My goals for this year are to compete in the junior open side saddle rider of the year and do my first BE 90 on Stitch and progress more with Stitch’s side-saddle.

6. Who is your equestrian idol?

My equestrian idol is Mark Todd because he is so experienced and a legend!  I would love to be able to ride really well at international events like him one day. He is also always really friendly at shows and will stop for a chat and a photo.

7. If you could ride any horse in the world who would it be?

The horse that I would love to ride is Ballaghmor Class because he is stunning and such a super event horse.

8. What is your favourite competition to ride at?

My favourite competition is the H.H Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid al Maktoum UK Endurance Festival. It is a fantastic show and the H.H Sheikh kindly sponsors the show and treats the PC members like royalty with lots of special treats. We competed in the PC Grassroots Endurance Championships last year where I was placed 3rd, we can’t wait to go back this year!

9. Do you have any lucky routines or mascots that you have for competitions?

As a lucky mascot, I have a lucky lorry bear that I won at the nationals 2 years ago and I have lucky knickers that I save for completions!

10. What is your top turnout tip?

My Top Turnout tip is I put Groom Away Patent Shine on the bridle and saddle just before I go into a side-saddle class as it is super effective and makes the tack look shiny.
