Get To Know Pippa!

Get to know Pippa our NEW KBIS NSEA Bursary winner!

When did you first start riding?

I first started riding when I was really young because my mum had horses when she was growing up. I shared my first pony, Ellie, with my sister, Lucy and I joined the Pony Club when I was 6 years old.

Tell me about your pony Tilly?

Tilly (her show name is Ebony) is my third pony. She is a 13.1hh Black Fell X and is 16 years old. I’ve had her for nearly three years and we have had lots of ups and downs. When I first got her I was a really nervous rider and only liked to ride in the arena, I wasn't very keen on hacking or cross country. I loaned a pony called Sabrina for a year to help get my confidence but we still kept Tilly. We have come a long way together and now Tilly and I love cross country and are competing up to 90cm.

Who are your riding idols?

My biggest idol is Pippa Funnel, definitely. I read all her books when I was younger and got her autograph. She was the first person to win the Rolex Grand Slam of Eventing which is a massive, massive dream of mine in the future. I also really admire Emily and Mary King they are just incredible riders and I look up to them so much.

What are your aims for 2018?

My main aim for 2018 is to have lots of fun! I would like to do my first BE as I know Tilly is capable. I also qualified for lots of events in the winter and I can’t wait to go to the championships. I’m going to keep working hard on my dressage so that one day I can do Pony Club Eventing Grassroots, although that probably won’t be on Tilly, unfortunately. I also really want to be able to qualify for Nationals Tetrathlon as it is a goal of mine.
