Finn's September Blog: Four NSEA Qualifications!

Well, what a great month Jack and I have had together!

September started off with a fantastic trip to Burghley Horse Trials, where I was inspired from the great cross-country riding and enjoyed watching how the huge course rode.

That week I had an Alan Fazakerley lesson where Jack was amazing and didn't put a foot wrong the whole time. This set us up perfectly for the Yorkshire challenge at Frickley. We started off with a great dressage of 32(in the long championship arena!) which put us into 11th out of over 50 riders. This followed by an awesome XC round where everything rode perfectly. We ended exactly on the optimum time to go into showjumping in 6th position. We then jumped in reverse order adding to the tension, but with Jack feeling great, we jumped a fabulous round. Unfortunately, just giving the gate at 4, the tiniest of rubs, I think this was because I tried to ride for the horse distance and he got a little quick. Finishing 11th was very frustrating as the great prize money and mounted prize giving was to 10th, I was however thrilled with how Jack performed!

We then had another lesson with Alan Fazakerley where Jack jumped his little socks off for me, round a very big track that he built in our arena! The following weekend, we went to Keysoe NSEA qualifier, where Jack flicked his toes to qualify in the elementary dressage doing a great test. Afterwards, we did a great clear in the 90cm Jumping with Style (JWS) where I finished on a style mark of 0.5! However, being a touch further away from the optimum time than the winner I slipped to 2nd, but still qualified for the champs, which is also sponsored by KBIS. In the 1m I had a costly pole but again he jumped great!

Last weekend was Bishop Burton for some more NSEA qualifiers, on the Saturday in the showjumping I had one pole in the first class and two in the second as he was fighting the bit I was experimenting with! On the second day in the NESA KBIS JWS I went in the 1m with his normal bit and he was so much happier, jumping a great double clear to come 2nd and qualify! This has left me with four individual National NSEA qualifications, 90cm, 1m and 1.10m KBIS JWS and elementary dressage, which is never easy as I am the only NSEA member at my school.

We finished the month with Pony Club team SJ at Osberton International Horse Trials which is also home to the KBIS young horse Championships, I was sorry not to meet the KBIS team as they were busy with Prize Giving, but I did manage to get a picture with the banner in our arena!

I cannot wait to meet the KBIS team at the NSEA champs!
