KBIS British Equestrian Insurance Champions Set The Stands Alight At Stoneleigh Park

PRESS RELEASE

This year’s British Dressage Championships at Stoneleigh saw plenty of high class performances in the KBIS British Equestrian Insurance Disabled Rider Dressage Finals.

Grade I – Lee Pearson

Grade I was taken by Lee Pearson, from Staffordshire, riding Romanze In Dur; a 15.3hh mare.

Said Lee: “I have been riding this horse since the spring. Now 14-years-old, the mare has a phenomenal personality and has a great work ethic and trot. I really love her.

“I took her to the Nationals to see how she went because I enjoy riding her; we didn’t expect her to win.

“She went really well on the day and I was really pleased with her! She made her mark and a lot of people commented on her.”

Natasha Baker and Waldminor

Grade II – Natasha Baker

Natasha Baker, from Cowley in Middlesex, rode Waldminor into the winning spot of the Grade II class.

Said Natasha: “I was thrilled to win – he went well on the day – the halt slightly let us down but it was still great to win!"

Natasha is in her final year of A-levels and is in the World Class Development programme. Having also competed at this year’s World Para’s at Hartpury. The Nationals is her biggest win to date.

Grade III – Simon Laurens

Simon Laurens based in Cheltenham, gained a winning score in the Grade III class riding Ocean Diamond.

Said Simon: “He was a star at the Nationals, and very reliable. He is now working at a higher level and is at the top end of medium.

“I keep his competition schedule to a minimum for the big occasions. I have had an amazing season and it couldn’t have gone better. It has snowballed out of control; the Nationals were great!”

After winning team gold at the World Para’s earlier this year at Hartpury College, and achieving an individual Freestyle gold medal, Simon’s success has continued rolling and has kept their competitive spirit on a high.

Alan Clements and MJ Fine Art

Grade IV – Alan Clements

Alan Clements, based at Neston in Cheshire won the Grade IV riding Jane Howell’s stallion, MJ Fine Art.

Said Alan: “I’ve never known a day like this - it was so nerve-wracking; but I’ve got a wonderful horse to ride and couldn’t be happier.”

Alan broke his neck in a motorbike accident and has limited use of one arm. He trains with Jane, Mike Jones and Stephen Clarke.

Jane added: “Everything came off on the day. The horse was sparkling - it was like a fairy tale.”

Said Liz Prest of KBIS British Equestrian Insurance: “The qualifiers of the disabled dressage series are of such a high standard with competitors who really put their heart and soul into the sport. “The performances this year have been outstanding, with some very high scores and we are delighted to be able to provide support for the series. I have the utmost respect and admiration for all the riders involved.”
