Riding No Limits 5, Michelle finished on a score of
72.04% much to her delight and a huge round of applause from the
stands.
Formerly ridden by international British dressage rider, Sandy
Phillips, a team member at this year’s World Equestrian Games, No
Limits 5 is on loan for para dressage competitions and is owned by
Geoff Kroll. The 16.3hh German-bred bay gelding is now 16-years-old
and is kept with Michelle’s trainer, Angela Weiss, who is also
Geoff’s partner.
Said Michelle: “I have trained with Angela since I started dressage
in 2001. I had four lessons from her before I was selected for a
place on the Para-dressage squad in May that year.
“I am really pleased with the win at the National Dressage
Championships. He is a wonderful ride and I am very fortunate to
have him.”
A great achievement, in 2005, Michelle and her former ride Painted
Affair, became the first Para-dressage rider to compete at Prix St
Georges and Intermediaire 1 in able-bodied competitions.
Michelle was born without the lower part of her left arm; her arm
finishes just below her elbow. She uses a standard rein with her
right hand and has an elastic insert on the left rein near the bit,
as well as a loop at the other end, which she hooks over her elbow
and moves up and down.
