2006 Scholarship - Daniel Moseley’s Diary
KBIS British Equestrian Insurance Scholar Daniel Moseley has had a successful time at Horse of the Year Show.
Here we catch up with him in his latest diary.
September 2007
September and early October has been a busy time and been great fun with competing at HOYS.
I also competed earlier in September at the Arena UK Festival, jumping in the Under 21 Championship qualifying class on Shadow Breaker, and achieved fourth place. I also rode Waldo in a few of the four year old classes to help him gain some experience and he jumped really well with two double clear rounds on both days of the festival. Waldo is jumping really well at the moment but is it’s still evident in his jumping that he lacks the experience he needs to cope with the stresses of the shows as well as having to perform in the ring. This will come in time.
I was one of the qualifiers in the KBIS British Equestrian Insurance 6-Year-Old Championship class which was held on the Friday. I had two of my six-year-olds entered – Utopia Red and U2 The First. U2 The First unfortunately gained 4 faults in the first round, while Utopia Red continued on good form to achieve third place with a double clear in a good time.

I also qualified for the Under 21 Championship on Lucy May which was held at HOYS. The top 20 riders in the country qualify for the final so I was pleased to qualify; however, we had a pole down in the first round but I was pleased with her performance.
I was so pleased with Utopia Red; he is now having a break until Christmas as he has been kept in work since he was five-years-old and deserves a rest. Shadow Breaker has just had his break for a month or so and is just coming back into work again now. His first show back will be Towerlands which is in November.
All the horses got the weekend off after HOYS as they all jumped extremely well.
I will also be competing on Lucy May and U2 The First at Towerlands to get the horses out before Olympia comes along in December.
October is a quiet month for us at the moment so it will give us a chance to get the youngsters out to a few of the local shows and events for them to gain a bit of experience. It’s good to take the youngsters out to all the local shows before entering the affiliated classes as they need to be able to get used to the atmosphere that different shows present.
Will write soon – best wishes Daniel.
