September 2006
Great News!
Even though I have only one horse competing at the
minute it’s been a very hectic month with all the autumn events
coming fast.
Dunauger has had a visit from the vet who has given me a fitness
programme for him to stick to. He is now also allowed to be turned
out in a small paddock. I am currently working him at walk and have
just started to do some trotting with him. It is a very controlled
programme but I do not want to rush him before he is completely
healed. He has been fantastic over the last couple of months, he is
so polite and well behaved even though he has been shut up in his
stable all day and night. In three weeks the vet will be visiting
again to give the all clear. He will then have a break until spring
so we can work on his fitness and slowly bring him back to form.
Forget Me Not has had a great month, we have been out every weekend.
She is working and coping well at Novice level. I recently took her
to Allerton Park One Day Event, which is a local event for me with a
strong cross-country course. We came home seventh and picked up our
first British Eventing point which is a great start.
Last weekend we competed at Aske Hall, she went well but finished
outside the placing as we picked up time penalties. The going was
very sticky and she tired very easily with her being a young horse.
We have now completed four Novice events which means we have
qualified for Aldon Novice Two Day Event on the 19th October.
We are currently on our way to a show-jumping practice with a friend
to gain experience and confidence in the show-jumping phase when we
event.
Hopefully there will be some more good news next month and I will
keep you updated on Dunauger’s progress. Happy riding!
