Dressage Masters Championships

Jennie and Chav (KBIS Zavir) competed at the prestigious Hickstead International Show after successfully qualifying for the Dressage Masters National Championships.

The Dressage Masters Championships incorporates classes from Preliminary up to Advanced Medium and takes place on the Monday and Tuesday before the Young Horse National Championships and CDI classes take over for the following five days of the International Show.

Qualifying competitions for the Championships take place across eleven regions throughout the year. By competing in a British Dressage Show that has been classified as a Dressage Masters qualifier, a rider can gain qualification for their regional semi final with a win in their class. The top four from the semi final competitions then go through to the Championships at Hickstead.

Having gained their qualification ticket at Hunters Equestrian Centre, Jennie and Chav packed their bags on Sunday in order to make the journey to the showground and stable overnight. Allowing Chav plenty of time to settle in before his test at noon on Monday.

With Chav not quite on top form in the week prior to the Championships Jennie was a little apprehensive about the competition. It would seem however he was just missing the limelight since his trip to Ireland, as once in the arena he performed impeccably in his test, producing a very good score of 69.03% from the two judges.

Thirty three combinations contested in the Novice class and with their competitive score Jennie and Chav finished up in sixth place overall and third in the restricted section. Three riders, including Jennie, were tied in sixth place on 69.03%, which meant that the final placings would be decided by the collective marks of each test. With a combined total of 112 Jennie and Chav had gained the highest and therefore took sixth place. The top six were then presented with their prizes in a mounted prize giving in the main international arena.

Jennie and Chav’s next outing will be at the Summer Regional Finals where they will be travelling to Keysoe Equestrian Centre to try and gain their qualification for the Dressage Deluxe National Championships at Stoneleigh in September.
