Top Class Performances at Stafford Horse Trials
The BE80 (T) class at Stafford Horse Trials was once again a popular choice amongst riders with three full sections running on the Saturday of the event. Competition proved to be tough though, with the winners of each of the sections finishing on very low penalty scores, all in the twenties.
Charmay Ball and her 11-year-old mare Anastasia III won the first of the three sections when they finished on their good dressage score of twenty eight. Charmay and Anastasia are quite familiar with this event having competed in the same class in 2009 and earlier this season in March. Having had an unfortunate stop cross country on both of those occasions it finally all came together and Charmay managed to secure her first British Eventing win.
Despite also finishing on a very good dressage score of just 29.5 Janet Norton and Grumps had to settle for second place in this section. This was only Grumps' second event having competed in a BE80 class the week before at Ascott Under Whychwood where he came sixth.
Kiah Webster riding Blue by You, had an unfortunate fall at their first attempt at a BE80 class back in June at Hutton in the Forest. They have since however put this behind them coming third at Ascott Under Wychwood a month later and taking first place in section Q at Stafford, finishing on their dressage mark of 29.5.
The third an final section was won by Charlie Adams and Grey Mist on their debut British Eventing outing, where they put on a polished performance to finish on their very good dressage mark of 23. Dressage leaders Michelle Lawrence and Chester XIII unfortunately had one show jump down to finish just one penalty point behind Charlie on 2, leaving them unable to make it two wins in a row after they claimed a BE80 section at Ascott Under Whychwood a week earlier.
