Emma Harris Claims Stockland Lovell JRN
Young rider Emma Harris put her cross country experience to good use when she claimed the KBIS JRN section at Stockland Lovell Horse Trials in Somerset, on her eight year old gelding Regal Rock Chardonnay.
Seventeen-year-old Emma, a member of the North Cornwall PC, has competed for many years at tetrathlons which she said has enabled her to develop her cross country riding and help judge her time across country. With a good dressage score and a clear show jumping round she was in a good position to finish within the top few places but it all hanged on producing a clear cross country round, and within the time.
Emma father said of Chardo, as he is known at home, ‘ he is a natural show jumper but being a warmblood he does sometimes struggle to make the time across country so we have been working hard on his fitness at home making use of the hills around us.’ This work obviously paid off and Chardo proved he could keep up with the Thoroughbreds, coming home penalty free inside the time. One of only three combinations to do so.
Emma was delighted with Chardo's performance, even more so when the results came up and she had won the section, four penalty marks clear of second placed Alice Simon and Codex.
Based in Cornwall, Emma is trained by Trilby Crewes who runs her own equestrian centre near Bodmin. Trilby has supported Emma at her JRN’s this year being on hand to help her prepare for each phase in the warm up. Having previously competed herself at BE events she can provide Emma with some good practical advise, which Emma has put to good use.
Emma is also lucky to receive support from Nick and Mandy Holman of Chyverton Park Equestrian Centre. They kindly let her use their facilities for training, which includes a show jumping arena and cross country course, perfect for per season schooling. In addition she also receives some sponsorship from Raymond Brown Construction.
Emma and Chardo have now had two wins and a second place in the JRN classes, this means that they have achieved their goal for 2010, qualifying to compete in the KBIS JRN Championships at Weston Park in October.
Emma father said ‘Emma has worked incredibly hard on her riding over the last two years. Her recent results and qualification for the JRN Championships are a testament of her dedication and commitment and the support of her trainer.’
