New Horse Trial Proves to be a Great Success
The new horse trials, Glanusk International, in Powys, Wales proved to be a great success with the Saturday of the trials seeing over 4,000 riders and spectators on the event site.
The event, which ran from the 1st - 4th July, hosted classes from BE90 up to Intermediate, including a CIC*, all courses were beautifully made and presented by course builder Dominic Moore, with course designer Eric Winter producing five carefully thought out courses that were both challenging but a fair test for each level.
The event was also host to a KBIS JRN section, which was won by Hannah Ford on board High Profile. The combination lead the section from the start with a good dressage score of 26, some six penalty marks clear of Genevieve Clarke and Sophie Wragg who lay in joint second place after the dressage, on a score of 32.
The show jumping track proved to be influential with only two clear rounds on the board, but despite High Profile touching a pole their good dressage and clear cross country round inside of the time meant that they were able to hold onto first place.
This is Hannah’s second season with High Profile, and it was their first win together despite having a very consistent record over the past year. Hannah’s mother Judith said of the event ‘ It was refreshing to see eventing return to its roots with a real cross country challenge where horse and rider were rewarded for their skills and courage. It was great for Hannah to have the opportunity to ride such a well designed and bold cross country course.’
Glanusk also provided Georgie and Doris (KBIS Starlet) with their fourth competition together and was Doris’ toughest cross country test yet. Despite this she once again finished on her good dressage score of 33 to take third place, for the third time! Finishing just 4.5 penalty marks behind the winner Andrew Bennie, Georgie said that she is feeling more and more confident at Novice level and is really looking forward to her contesting in her first CCI* at Hartpury in August.
