KBIS British Novice Regional Final Attracts High Entries

Sixty-eight competitors turned up for the KBIS British Novice Regional Final held at Summerhouse Equestrian Centre, Gloucestershire on Sunday 6th June.

Out of the sixty eight starters, thirty seven went through to the second round and then eighteen jumped a further clear round to go through to final timed jump off. Course builder Ed Williams commented that competitors jumped so well in the first two rounds that he was happy to raise the final round to the maximum 1.20m, resulting in five triple clears!

First place went to Mark Lawson and Zimmertwirre from Blidworth, Nottingham. Mark had travelled down the night before and stayed over night at Summerhouse. The horse had obviously had a good nights sleep but Mark found it a bit of an experience as it was his first night trying to sleep in the lorry!

Mark has had a fifteen year break from competing to pursue a career in Pharmaceutical Product Management. After deciding he would like to have another go at competing he purchased the five year old Zimmertwirre, whose sire is Numero Uno, nine months ago. They have only been competing together for five months and Mark is very impressed with the horse and something from his own past experience must have stuck, as so far so good. Mark said he was just glad to have qualified for the regional final let alone go on to win in a strong class. He also said that his aim for the future will now be to keep up with his horses ability.

The other two qualifying places went to Rhiannon Lewis with Calcourt Luicit Liason and Julie Peake riding Just For Spot who both put in faultless rounds.

Helen Gallop of Summerhouse was delighted with the turnout and was quick to thank KBIS for their support of this series, which is so popular amongst both amateur and professional riders.
